This past week craft brewers from across the nation and around the world gathered in San Diego, CA for the 29th annual Craft Brewers Conference. At the close of the conference winners of the 2012 World Beer Cup were announced. The bi-annual competition is in it's ninth year and according to the Brewers Association, who puts on the Craft Brewers Conference, this year "boasted the strongest field of entrants on record, with 799 breweries from 54 countries and 45 U.S. states entering 3,921 beers in 95 beer style categories."
Colorado took home a very respectable 27 medals 13 of which were Gold. It trailed only behind California's 55 in number of medals won per state.
One of Colorado's newer breweries, Telluride Brewing Co., took home Gold in the American-Style Brown Ale category for their Face Down Brown.
Bull & Bush Brewery in Denver was the states biggest winner, taking home 4 medals.
And Rocky Mountain Brewery nearly swept the Fruit Beer Category, winning a Gold medal for Eat a Peach, and a Silver for Da Yoopers, their cherry pie beer which won Gold in 2010 in the same category.
